Today, I was ready to go when I woke up. I was prepared to have a wonderful day at school and hoped to accomplish lots in the classroom. I was able to accomplish a decent amount which is good but it was not the most pleasant day. My teacher's teaching style and mine do not quite mesh and that has been causing some build up between her and I. I really enjoy her as a person but there are matters that we disagree on. I am learning how to compromise but also, how to not stray from what I know and stand for in the classroom. My mentor teachers at Lowther South (the 5th grade building I student taught at) told me to never let anyone tell me how to teach and stick to what I know. I struggle because I want to do what is best for the students. I hope that this situation gets cleared up and that we do what is in the best interest of the students.
After school, I ran some errands with the girls. We have been trying to recycle and finally found a place to put all of it! Maybe by Thanksgiving, it will look like we really live here! I also ran to the Post Office to mail out some more cards and letters. I must say, I really enjoy writing people. I should say, I enjoy writing in general. The roommates and myself had a pretty solid conversation about everything that's happened up to today since we've been down here. We all felt like we were on the same page which is a relief. I spent the remainder of my evening writing letters to friends, talking to Jenae, and watching Pride and Prejudice with my roommates. Tomorrow is a new and and will be a good day. I'm determined to make sure it is one. A few pluses for today: one of my students wrote me a sweet card and my name is now apparently "Ms. Hosten". I just think it's funny. Also, Julia comes on Friday so she's almost here!
For all of you that had a rough day today, tomorrow is a new day and will be a great day as long as you allow it to be!
